Cause of flaky skin

Skin goes dry, cracked and flaky either due to a lack of oil or a lack of water. The problem can range from a slight roughness to the skin to having chapping, cracking and bleeding if left unattended. This dehydration process is often seen in winter when the air is generally has a low level of humidity in it.  The cause is that there is not enough sebum produced. The natural oil coating on the skin is produced by the oil glands and in every person is acts in a different manner, this is why some people suffer from dry flaky cracked skin and others do not. It may also be wise to moderate the consumption of soft drinks, sugar and other junk foods, as diet may have an impact on the condition of skin, so it pays to vary this and see whether you can see any variation.
A final tip is that if you live in a region which is prone to dry weather it may be better to move, failing that consider getting a humidifier and placing it in the room where you spend most of your time.
